The practice

Built to be maintained, not just delivered

A meaningful share of the work in most businesses is repetitive, well defined, and being done by hand by someone expensive. Most of it can be built away.

It stays manual because building it away takes process analysis and engineering together, which few businesses have in-house or want to hire full time.

How the practice is built

Accountable after handover

Whoever builds it is who you reach when something changes. Nothing is handed down a chain of people who were not in the room.

Measurement before construction

Every engagement starts by quantifying the current work. It occasionally tells us to walk away, and we say so.

Open by default

We build on widely used tools and hand over full ownership. Lock-in is a business model we have chosen not to have.

Deliberately small

We take a limited number of engagements at a time. Nothing gets handed to someone you have never spoken to.

We are not trying to replace anyone's team.

An engagement is worth taking when it hands hours back to people who were spending them on the wrong work. That is the test we apply before we quote.

Fit

Who we work with

Small and mid-sized businesses across Canada, most often those handling high volumes of paperwork or moving the same information between several systems. See what we build for them →

Work is largely remote. Near Toronto we prefer to watch the process in person once — you learn more in an hour of watching than a week of description.

Common sectors

  • Accounting and bookkeeping
  • Freight and logistics
  • Property management
  • Staffing and recruitment
  • Professional services generally

Scope

What we will not do

Worth knowing before the call rather than after it.

We turn down

  • Work requiring security certification we do not hold
  • Licence resale and commissions — our recommendation is not for sale
  • Any engagement where the honest answer is that you do not need one
